In Love with Eleuthera #3: The Sharks

For those who have not had the chance to dive with the sharks on Eleuthera, with help from the sharks we are removing lion fish from the reefs. Florian does a great job of capturing the sharks eating lion fish, which first have to be killed or at least injured for the sharks to eat them. We learned a lot about shark behavior during those two weeks of diving, a great experience.

While the sharks will not eat anything that is not injured, wounded or dead, they began to visually recognize the wounded or dead lion fish as food after feeding them to the sharks for 8 or 10 dives. Prior to that they do the test bite first and then consume the lion fish.
